Right Is Always Right
Right is always right. We never have to apologize for what is right, offer excuses about why we do what is right, or offer an explanation to justify what is right. Right is just right.
In our society today, people who do what is right seem rare. It seems wrong is glorified and any excuse is offered for doing so. In politics, sports and academia, right is demeaned. Laws and ethics mean little. Today, money makes right; power makes right; beauty makes right. Whatever happened to make your “yes,” yes and “no,” no? Have we seen the death of rage against wrong?
While we see the deterioration of right in favor of wrong in society today, how does it affect us as God’s people? Here are some things that are always right:
It is right to worship God because He is our Creator (Rom. 1:21). Our worship to God does not grow out of our being Christians, but by being His creation. As His creation, it is always right to glorify Him and thank Him.
It is right to tell the truth, no matter the consequences (Matt. 5:37). Because we are Christians but especially because we are God’s creation, we ought to tell the truth.
It is right to control our temper (Eph. 4: 26). Control of our temper is a demonstration of self-control. Self-control is right.
It is right to be morally pure (1Cor. 6:18). Saying, “No” to fornication and adultery is right. If you are unmarried, it is right to remain sexually “pure”. If you are married it is right to keep yourself to your mate alone.
It is right to guard our minds (Phil. 4:8). That means it is right to say “No” to some movies, books, and music.
It is right to honor your parents (Eph. 6:1-4). Maybe we do not really learn the lesson as we ought until we are parents, but we must teach it to our children.
Yes, right is right. If our nation has denied what is right, God’s people must not. We can do right regardless of what the world is doing. This has always been the case for God’s faithful few.
